Village Chiropractic has been in business for almost 23 years. When Dr. Jeremy started down the street on FM 407, it was just him and a trusty adjusting table. The practice grew, building moved, and ultimately he integrated into a multidisciplinary clinic with massage and medical staff including a Family Nurse Practitioner.
I wanted to take a moment and discuss a quick patient that is a perfect example of why he chose this direction in practice. A mid-fifties gentleman called the office and scheduled an appointment. The patient had not been in the office for awhile so it was explained that he would need to update some paperwork as well as see the Nurse Practitioner. Previously the patient had been seen for foot and ankle pain. The patient finished the paperwork and was brought back to the nurse practitioner. Through discussions of the new symptoms, right arm pain and swelling for the previous two weeks, and after reviewing the patient’s history (he had a PCP and was being treated for high cholesterol), it was decided to perform a comprehensive blood panel.
Our office received the results and reviewed them with the patient. The results revealed low Vitamin D, low iron, low testosterone and most importantly, High A1C. The patient was a diabetic and didn’t know it. The blood work also revealed that the patient had Gout, a type of arthritis that can be detected in the blood.
This is why we are who we are at Village. We understand that we are a Chiropractic office first, but we also know that we are able to provide patients with a comprehensive healthcare option that is just better for them. We have caught several other diabetics that were unaware, as well as other untreated conditions. Just wanted to share this healthcare story with you and let you in on the “why”. Does every patient have to get labs? The easy answer is no, but the better answer is – it is always nice to have the option.
